PEREZ COVERS APAP 2019

January 17, 2019 by Perez Leave a Comment

APAP 2019 was once again fantastic!
Perez puts the spotlight on APAP – its NYC greatest hang !

Who is APAP? They have been serving thousands of member
organizations and individuals since 1957, APAP works to
strengthen the field and advance careers through professional
development, grant support, advocacy, networking and the annual
APAP|NYC conference .

Every year, APAP|NYC welcomes 3,600 colleagues and peers from 49 U.S. states and more than 29 countries for 5+ days of
professional development, showcases, unmatched networking and the world’s largest performing arts marketplace.
And networking is what its all about!

I checked out the Found Movement Group, a diverse ensemble of movers integrated to form a creative whole. they are the overlooked because of shape, size, race, gender, education (or lack there of), having too much of one style but wanting to train in another, not having enough training, the list goes on.

Found was established to fill the absence of hard hitting dance in Nashville. The company’s mission is to establish an open community by addressing real life issues through the lens of dance and movement theatre. The company explores the unspoken trials which we all seem to face but no one wants to admit. Our vision is to expose Nashville to choreography that maintains responsibility to social consciousness.

PEREZ

Singer, composer, recording artist Perez, pianist Misha Tsiganov, and guitarist Paul Bollenbeck join forces as a fresh new trio. The Harlem-born vocalist Perez can swing a standard, share a story through song, or nail a protest anthem. Her delivery is intimate enough to touch individual hearts and minds, and powerful enough to fill a concert hall. Stanley Crouch describes her as the real thing and indeed she is pure-voiced and free of affectations, with a round, robust sound as sparkling and fresh as iced Perrier yet dense and rich as darkest espresso.

– Christopher Loudon- JAZZ TIMES

Perez’s voice is a humidly sensual work of art: a perfectly formed alto with a solid bottom, a broad midrange of consistent density, and a confident top. This voice permits Perez to sing whatever she damn well pleases…and to sing it well.
– All About Jazz

Mafalda Minnozzi

I love this lady – her Duo with Paul Ricci is perfection – Romantic and artful – and dear friend of mine – so watch out for them – all over the world.

Ron Jackson

Cought his set at Gail Boyd’s showcase – Master 7-string guitarist Ron Jackson’s Trio performs jazz standards and new renditions of modern songs by composers such as Bill Withers, Drake, Van Morrison, Freddie Jackson, and Brian McKnight. Ron transforms pop hits into jazz, bossa nova, samba, and swing styles. Ron’s new album “Standard and Other Songs” is scheduled for release March 2019.   brownbassmusic.com
Classified as: REAL HIP CAT!

Lucia Jackson

Jazz vocalist and dancer Lucia Jackson performed her music from her debut album featuring songs from the great American songbook, pop tunes, and her original compositions. Lucia grew up in Spain and draws upon these musical roots by incorporating Flamenco and tango into jazz. Her presentation will be a combination of her music with dance and choreography. Lucia is a trained Alvin Ailey School modern dancer and will use her skills to present a program rarely seen in jazz.

Svetlana

I caught this treasure at Pat Harris’s “Two Great Days of Jazz” showcase -and it was stunning!

Svetlana is a critically acclaimed “outstanding” (Wall Street Journal) vocalist from New York and a leader of the New York based swing band, The Delancey Five (“NYC Darlings” Time Out).  Svetlana’s shows transport the audiences to the carnival of sound, seamlessly moving from sophisticated and sultry retrospection to a rowdy joyous dance party.
This is a clip from her previous record,  Night at the Speakeasy, ft Wycliffe Gordon

just sayin!
Here is her website: http://svetlanajazz.com/

So until next year – support live music and here are some fun images of APAP2019

On this day, 25 years ago, we remember. The sky on On this day, 25 years ago, we remember. The sky once darkened by evil now calls us to light. I honor the heroes, the truth that unites us, and the freedom that no act of terror can ever silence.
We must never forget how we came together as the sun set on that tragic day. Thousands of volunteers showed up with relentless strength and courage. Countless heroes ran toward danger, not away from it. Firefighters, Police, all first responders, volunteers, service dogs, ordinary civilians from all over the country and the world. In the days and endless nights that followed, we held hands, listened, hugged, cried, and reached out to one another.
Let us never stay silent in the face of evil, on this day and everyday, and in our personal lives and challenges. Silence is a betrayal to our families, our friends, and to all that were killed, their families, to ourselves and to those still walking through the fire. Truth spoken tales courage but it is our path to freedom.
Through the gray debris, the red, white, and blue still shined through ❤️🇺🇸🙏🏼
May God bless and through prayers, love, and truth we will rise from the ashes through our darkest days.

"No Day Shall Erase You From the Memory of Time"

Pray for peace , pray for the end of senseless killing and senseless war and pray for the end of greed

Nobody wins in a war. Nobody wins. All you have is death and greedy men making millions of dollars. Pray for intelligence. Pray That intelligence will lead the direction of the people who are in power, making decisions that affect all of us human beings and affect the Earth's atmosphere.

I will never forget 9/11. I will never forget the insurrection on January 6th.

Rest in peace, Yayoi Kusama. The pioneering Japane Rest in peace, Yayoi Kusama. The pioneering Japanese artist, famed for her polka dots, pumpkins, Infinity Mirror Rooms, and Obliteration Room, has died at 97. The Yayoi Kusama Museum and her gallery, David Zwirner, announced her death on August 26; Kusama died in Tokyo on August 14.

Born in Matsumoto, Japan, Kusama moved to New York in the late 1950s and emerged as a leading figure of the city’s avant-garde, working across painting, sculpture, performance, installation, literature, and poetry. Her work helped shape Pop and performance art, while her installations helped transform what we now think of as experiential art.

Her singular visual language also extended into fashion. Kusama collaborated with Louis Vuitton in 2012 and again in 2023, covering the house’s bags, clothing, shoes, and accessories in her signature "self-obliteration" dots and colorful motifs.

“My idea is to send the message of ‘love forever’ to all the people in the world through the polka dots, which are all about the universe and human beings and living things,” she told W while working on our 2013 cover with George Clooney (slides 2 and 9). “Your sex, being famous, being a star has nothing to do with it.”
Yayoi Kusama (March 22, 1929 – August 14, 2026) was a legendary Japanese avant-garde artist who passed away at the age of 97, leaving behind an indelible legacy as the world's top-selling female artist. Celebrated globally for her signature polka dots, immersive Infinity Mirrored Rooms, and iconic polka-dotted pumpkins, Kusama pioneered structural changes in contemporary art by bridging minimalism, pop art, and performance art. She was just genius. Rest in peace.
