Perez JAZZ Presents Brooklyn Duo House Concert Series 2017

February 6, 2017 by Perez 1 Comment

Sunday April 9th from New Orleans Cindy Scott Guitarist Brian Seeger.

“There is so much craft, creativity and love packed into this one disc! The song with the choir is gorgeous, I love your originals, the tunes with Karrin Allyson are smoking, and you sing with passion and connection throughout!
–Kate McGarry GRAMMY Nominee

Sunday May 7th ‘Gabrielle Stravelli Trio – http://www.gabriellestravelli.com/

Listening to the jazz singer Gabrielle Stravelli is like imbibing a potent cocktail whose flavor changes as you drain the glass. In the first couple of sips, the predominant taste is the sparkling wine that has drifted to the top, for Ms. Stravelli’s bright, rippling voice exudes a natural effervescence. Before long, it darkens, and the heady liquor underneath kicks in… As she dipped and swooped, twirling notes and phrases with a confidence and playfulness that recalled Ella Fitzgerald in her prime, Ms. Stravelli began interpreting lyrics with a ferocity that her vocal pyrotechnics accentuated”

Sunday June 4th Perez Art Hirahara

“Perez sings Nina Simone- Nina and Me” www.hipchickalert.com Perez is the new voice of this bunch, in spite of the fact she has been actively performing as vocalist for several years. Perez (now the single moniker) Perez’s voice is a humidly sensual work of art: a perfectly formed alto with a solid bottom, a broad midrange of consistent density, and a confident top. This voice permits Perez to sing whatever she damn well pleases…and to sing it well. ALL ABOUT JAZZ – PEREZ By C. MICHAEL BAILEY

Sunday June 18th Jed Levy

http://www.jedlevy.com/ “…the task that tenor saxophonist Jed Levy has set for himself in his explorations of a piece of the Evans digest using his tenor trio is a daunting one. Levy succeeds remarkably well through his own impressionistic gentle touch…” ALL ABOUT JAZZ

Sunday July 16th Christine Tobin Guitarist Phil Robson

http://www.christine-tobin.com/ “Tobin’s vocals, veering from acrobatic to sultry, are tailored perfectly for the material, her evocations of time and place precise. Classy and lovely.”The Observer

It feels like the end of an era, and my heart is h It feels like the end of an era, and my heart is heavy. When leadership becomes more authoritarian, history shows that the first things threatened are free expression, open speech, and often satire — the very tools comedians use to hold a mirror to society.

Hearing that Stephen Colbert is leaving the Ed Sullivan Theater is something I never imagined witnessing in my lifetime. The pressure surrounding corporate mergers and the shifting media landscape has created an environment where voices can be squeezed out, intentionally . It’s painful to watch journalists and comedians — people who challenge us, inform us, and make us think — face increasing limitations.

Still, I have no doubt that Colbert, with his intelligence and sharp comedic mind, will land somewhere new. But the broader silencing we’re seeing remains deeply concerning.

Stay well. Stay hip. Stay informed. Read books. Be kind to everyone you meet. #FreedonOfSpeech #intellegent #comedy

#musicphotography images taken by Perez using a Ni #musicphotography images taken by Perez using a Nikon ZF camera #nikon @sung_helen @roncarterbassist Thank you for the amazing music.
An epic evening at Dizzy’s with the incomparable H An epic evening at Dizzy’s with the incomparable Helen Sung, first alongside @roncarterbassist and then leading her brilliant big band. Watching that music move through the room felt like witnessing art in motion. Helen closed the set with Horace Silver’s Peace, wrapping the night in a warm, soulful embrace.

The audience was full of thoughtful, art-loving humans, and the whole experience lifted my spirit so high I’m still floating. I’m grateful to call Helen Sung a friend — hearing her original compositions and her stunning arrangements was extraordinary.

As Jackson Browne reminds us, these days we need to stick together. We need to support the arts. We need to share stories. We need music to fill our souls and remind us why storytelling matters.

Stay hip out there. Be kind to everyone you meet. Honor your own journey — it’s important.

Helen @sung_helen, congratulations. Tonight was pure joy.
Peace out,
Perez — www.perezimages.com#storytelling
UFC Freedom 250 (also referred to as UFC White Hou UFC Freedom 250 (also referred to as UFC White House) is an upcoming mixed martial arts event organized by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It is scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The event’s title references the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

On August 29, 2025, UFC CEO Dana White announced on social media that the plans had been finalized, saying, “We had the meeting at the White House… The White House fight is on.” His announcement followed public remarks from President Trump, who referenced his long-standing friendship with White. Trump has attended numerous UFC events in recent years, including UFC 316 in New Jersey, where several fighters greeted him cageside.

For me, this entire situation feels deeply disappointing. At a time when the country needs unity, elevating yet another fighting spectacle on such a symbolic national stage feels disheartening. I have always viewed UFC as a sport that is unrefined and lacking in dignity, and seeing it tied to this administration only reinforces that impression.

As for my own celebration of the Fourth of July, I will be spending it with friends and family, sharing a meal, and focusing on love, connection, and the true spirit of freedom.

That's all
